It's been super busy here over the last month or so, and in a good way! The sun is shining, Badger has been coming on leaps and bounds, we're a week into half term and there is chocolate everywhere, which (unfortunately for my Weight Watchers team leader) has been taking up a huge amount of my time. ;) I just love eggs. The chocolate variety.
So, when I was offered this lovely little gem, for review - I was hardly about to say no!
It's a week til Good Friday - so 9 days til Easter - and I estimate that I have eaten 7 eggs already. (1-2 a week!) Most, I have shared. I have, of course, only eaten such a shocking amount of chocolate because I've been waiting to gather enough research for this review. ;)
So. The White Splat Egg.
This is definitely a grown-up egg. Not one for the kids. This isn't because it's too good to share (it is, but...) it's just a very rich egg and the salted caramel flavour just gives it a slightly bitter-sweet kick which isn't really sickly-sweet enough for your typical child. Think, Adult's Caramac. But smoother, better. Thicker!
My favourite part of an Easter egg is the smashing - the sensation when you crack through the shell is one of the greatest feelings known to man. Having a super thick egg like this, you would be forgiven for thinking that this sensation was dampened because of the force required to get through it with your bare hands - but you'd be wrong. It was still an amazing sensation and to make it even better, this is the thickest chocolate egg I have ever had, even without taking into account that Splat, which means it lasted that while longer.
Hotel Chocolat do a fabulous selection for the kids, such as the Big Ciy Bunny - which I have purchased for my boys - but if you are looking for an excellent chocolate gift this Easter for your partner, parent, friend or older child, then the Splat Egg is the way to go. It's a fab price and if the recipient is not mad for white chocolate then there are milk and dark varieties too. As ever, the packaging of anything from Hotel Chocolat is spectacular.
Let me just say though, if you do enjoy white chocolate - then you must try Hotel Chocolat's white chocolate at some point. I mentioned at Christmas after having their goody bag, that it really is the best.
So what other luxury eggs are on the market?
These are all pricier than the Splat Egg, I'm afraid, but everyone loves a bit of Food Porn.
