Visual aids are resources which are clearer to understand, and/or respond to, than simply using verbal language. Often, they remove stressors such as the need to remember, to process auditory inputs and so on.
For example, for a child who has real difficulty with making decisions about what they would like to eat, offering a list of verbal options can become too much for them to handle. This is often particularly true when you are eating out, or when you are working on increasing the number of foods your child will eat. By giving choices clearly and without pressure, which visual aids are all about, you are removing some stress from what is already a hard choice or a difficult process.
In a morning, your child may really struggle with preparing themselves for the day. No matter how many times they have done it! A clearly defined morning routine with a visual support gives them independence and you a little more freedom. In the evening, they can make transition from free time to bath time to bed time much smoother too.
Our resources are designed to make life that little bit easier for your child and goals that little more achievable. But we also like things to be attractive and engaging for everyone who is using the system. Providing a background is not too distracting to your child, having resources that are bright and colourful (in our experience at least) are more engaging and fun and likely to stick around a while! For some, that may be too much. Which is why you will most likely always see a plain download option too.
As ever, our packs are all free to download.
